RAILING AGAINST THE 30-YEAR REIGN of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, thousands took to the streets around Tahrir Square in Cairo on January 25th, 2011, in a peaceful demonstration that quickly turned violent. Loosely organized through social media, the young and old streamed the square that police forces would soon engulf in tear gas.

Escalating violence brought the Egyptian Army and their tanks into the conflict as pro-Mubarak supporters roamed nearby streets with sticks and clubs leading to massive battles and numerous casualties.

Tahrir Square became a symbol for those Egyptians seeking a brighter future from their chapter in the Arab Spring.
